Can you believe that they dropped Asperger’s??? 

Asperger’s dropped from revised diagnosis manual!!

O.K., I have been out of town training for a Hospital job. They flew me out for training, and I have so many tests to take! When I saw the article for this “revised” manual quackery, I was shocked and then outraged!!! Asperger’s was dropped from the DSM, and is now claimed to be temper tantrums!!  

Please read an article about this so that you will understand what I am talking about! I refuse to “LINK” any of them to my blog. It is the most unprofessional, slap in the face to all Autistic families, and “Un-medical” form of reporting that I have ever seen. Asperger’s dropped from the DSM!! Search for it on Google!!

 This sets all families back to “the old days”, where Autistic children were sent to institutions!!! This basically “claims” that it is not Autism, but a “temper tantrum”!! Where do they come up with this stuff?? It’s like some uneducated person making a change!! Someone who has no experience with Autism whatsoever, coming in and demanding that it be this way. 

After all these years, we have come so far in understanding Autism. Now, they take away everything Asperger’s stands for and call it temper tantrums or defiant disorder???!!! Absolutely NOT!!  

 First of all (if you have ANY MEDICAL CLUE), there is a HUGE difference between their so called “temper tantrums” and an Autistic “fit”, melt down, etc. It is in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM, a temper tantrum!! Autistic children do not just have temper tantrums, o.k.??? They are a NEUROLOGICAL REACTION TO STIMULATION!!!  They do not just decide they want their way, they are having a NEUROLOGICAL REACTION!!

I would just like to say also: when you change things all the time anyway, you lose the respect and belief from others!! But, this is just purely INSANE!!

What is the purpose in this?? For pharmaceutical reasons? The ability to see more patients and make $$$?? It doesn’t even make sense! 

Second of all (if you even have a clue), Autism is not MENTAL. It is NEUROLOGICAL, and all patients should be seen by NEUROLOGISTS, not psychiatrists! Maybe if you got that in the first place, we could get somewhere. This just sets everyone back. Maybe the Mental Health community with benefit in some way, but not Autistic patients!

Do you even realize how this will set Autistic Persons back in the EDUCATION setting????? This just justifies to them that Autistic Persons can control themselves and will not need ANY services!!

Do they even realize that not only did they throw all Autistic families under the bus, but this is a: SLAP IN THE FACE!! 

This totally disgusts me, and they have lost ALL OF MY RESPECT!! 

Thank GOD, my son is older, has received most all of his services, and will receive the rest of his education through private & competent sources!!! 

Also, my son is “PHARMACEUTICAL FREE” NOW. I HAVE NO NEED TO HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS COMMUNITY OR IT’S SERVICES!!

I refuse to support any community/organization that is disrespectful or DEROGATORY to anyone in the Autism Community!!

We all have rights, and they can not be taken away or altered in anyway shape or form. Our rights can not and WILL NOT be trampled upon because someone decides (AFTER ALL OF THESE YEARS) that things should be changed!

 Oh yeah, about the “tantrum/defiant” Vs. an Autism “reaction” thing, I would suggest spend a week or two with an Autistic Person and see the difference!! 

This is not an “I WANT KOOL-AID INSTEAD OF WATER” THING!! This is a Neurological reaction to “over-stimulation” of their sensory processing!! This has to do with muscles & stimulation, not temper tantrums!!

I try to educate people regarding the difference. It’s pretty simple!! First of all, Autism has to do with the signals going TO the brain, not just coming from the brain. And, it is in no way shape or form, MENTAL!! It has to do with the CNS (Central Nervous System), and the signal processing. Not mental in the brain. 

Autism is not a choice or something that someone chooses to do. THEY ARE NOT DEFIANT OR THROWING TEMPER TANTRUMS. 

I know the difference between the two, and they are completely different. Anyone can see the difference. 

To me it is like saying a cancer patient is just throwing a tantrum or is defiant! Or, do you claim a paraplegic is defiant or throwing tantrums??? Would you demand that they are defiant and should just get up and walk???

This is INSANE, appalling, and just plain sickening!! I am completely disgusted, and don’t want my son on drugs that raise his cholesterol, make him obese, or make him sicker!! Thanks, but no thanks.

 We don’t need some SNARKY QUACKERY anyway. And, we definitely don’t need random people changing everything, or inhibiting us from our rights. 

As a parent, you have rights. There are also FEDERAL RIGHTS in place that NO ONE can VIOLATE! 

Maybe that’s the problem. On every level medically and educationally, people are all over the place. One says one thing, and another says something completely opposite. Yes, everyone has an opinion. And, that’s just it. This may be your opinion, but laws and FACTS can not just be interpreted. They have to be followed, and they do not change just because someone thinks it should. 

That is my rant, and I’m sticking to it. Until people get over the fact that Autism is not mental, not a choice, not a defiant temper tantrum, then the whole community is just basically abandoned. 

You can not demand, or give an Autistic person a “pill” to cure/fix it. 

Personally, I feel that Autistic Persons should have a completely separate panel of professionals that specialize in it specifically. It shouldn’t even be crammed into psychiatric mental health mumbo jumbo anyway!!

Everyone is out to make a dollar, and this just leaves me to believe that their are ulterior motives to this. Of course it is!! The education system slaps us in the face, and didn’t even want to accept the medical Diagnosis from Doctors anyway!! And now, the mental health DSM people are doing the same thing!! 

How about they stick to their psychiatry, and let the MEDICAL Doctors stick to their specialty. 

All Autistic persons should be treated by a Neurologist/Medical Doctor, Occupational Therapist, and persons with credentials who have extensive training and experience with Autism. 

Autism is a Neurological medical condition, not psychological. You can not just take away Asperger’s and claim temper tantrums!!

One day Autism is supposedly this, and the next it’s something completely off the wall. Outrageous and Unbelievable!! Exactly, it is unbelievable!!
